PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fingerprint collecting device and a fingerprint collecting method which collect fingerprint images in a wide range with high accuracy.SOLUTION: A fingerprint collecting device 100 has a shooting sensor unit 101; a focusing optical system 112f; an optical system driving mechanism 113; a control portion 102; and an image processing portion 103. The shooting sensor unit 101 forms a subject image. The focusing optical system 112f focuses the subject image on a light-receiving surface of the shooting sensor unit. The optical system driving mechanism 113 displaces at least the focusing optical system 112f along an optical axis. The control portion 102 makes the optical system driving mechanism and the shooting sensor unit alternately and repeatedly execute the displacement and image pick-up of the focusing optical system. The image processing portion 103 separately calculates focus degrees of a plurality of small areas configuring the picked-up image. The image processing portion 103 extracts a part image in each small area from a single picked-up image. The image processing portion 103 combines the extracted part images to form the whole image.
