PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture quality improvement image generation device for emphasizing the characteristics of an image while maintaining the picture quality of the image.SOLUTION: A picture quality improvement image generation device includes: a first emphasis processing part for performing first emphasis processing to a synthesis object image; a second emphasis processing part for performing second emphasis processing which is different from the first emphasis processing to the synthesis object image; a first edge emphatic image generation part for generating a plurality of first edge emphatic images by performing first edge emphasis processing to emphasize each of edges in a plurality of directions to the synthesis object image to which the first emphasis processing has been performed; a second edge emphatic image generation part for generating a plurality of second edge emphatic images by performing second edge emphasis processing to emphasize each of the edges in the plurality of directions to the synthesis object image to which the second emphasis processing has been performed; a synthetic image generation part for generating a plurality of synthetic images by synthesizing the plurality of first edge emphatic images, the plurality of second edge emphatic images and the synthetic source image; and a synthetic moving image generation part for generating a synthetic moving image in which the plurality of synthetic images are displayed so as to be continuously switched.
