PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting a cast slab joint part in continuous casting of different steel kinds, capable of surely detecting a position of the cast slab joint part having a shallow depression, which has been conventionally difficult to be detected, regardless of the type of a detector.;SOLUTION: Provided is a method in continuous casting of different steel types, for tracking a position of a cast slab joint part by using a length measuring roll 13 and determining a cutting position of a cast slab S. In the method, regarding a front and back set region of the cast slab joint part tracked by the length measuring roll 13, the upper surface height of the cast slab is measured for every constant time interval from a measuring start point by using a detector 26 arranged on the downstream side of the length measuring roll 13, and the measured height is compared with the maximum upper surface height of the cast slab stored in storage means 19. When the upper surface height of the cast slab is higher than the maximum upper surface height of the cast slab, the upper surface height of the cast slab is stored in the storage means 19 as the maximum upper surface height of the cast slab; and when the upper surface height of the cast slab is lower than the maximum upper surface height of the cast slab by a set value or more, a position of the upper surface height of the cast slab is determined as the cast slab joint part.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2015,JPO&INPIT
