PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately estimate a travel direction from a moving motion of a mobile object even when a relative position between the mobile object and a device changes.;SOLUTION: A travel direction estimation device includes: an acceleration differential feature quantity calculation part 110 which outputs acceleration differential feature quantity aW'; a vertical/horizontal plane decomposition part 130 which performs component decomposition to the acceleration differential feature quantity aW' into a vertical direction component in a world coordinate system, a tentative travel direction component set in a direction perpendicular to the vertical direction, and a tentative horizontal direction component perpendicular to the tentative travel direction and the vertical direction; a pattern comparison part 150 which compares each of patterns to appear in the tentative travel direction component and the tentative horizontal direction component with a characteristic pattern representing periodicity of acceleration or angular velocity in the travel direction and the horizontal direction of a mobile object in a walking motion; and an estimated travel direction output part 170 which outputs a tentative value with the highest matching degree as the estimated travel direction as a result of updating and comparing tentative values.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT
