PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a positive electrode active material for a nonaqueous secondary battery having a uniform particle size distribution and offering excellent cycle characteristics and output characteristics when used in a battery.SOLUTION: Ni-Co-Mn complex hydroxide particles at least containing a prescribed amount of Ca, preferably further containing prescribed amounts of Mg and Na, and being secondary particles formed by aggregation of a plurality of primary particles are obtained by inducing nucleation while controlling the pH at 25°C of a solution for nucleation containing a Ni-Co-Mn compound, Ca or both Ca and Mg, and an ammonium-ion supplying body within the range of 12.0 to 14.0, and inducing nucleus growth while controlling the pH at 25°C of the solution for particle growth containing nuclei within the range of 10.5 to 12.0 lower than the pH during the nucleation. A positive electrode active material for a nonaqueous secondary battery is obtained from the Ni-Co-Mn complex hydroxide particles.
