PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the thermal decomposition apparatus for polymer waste which can suppress the oxidation of a carbide left in the thermal decomposition furnace after thermal decomposition of the polymer waste. PSOLUTION: The thermal decomposition apparatus for polymer waste includes: a heat exchanger 1 for heating an oxygen-free gas; a decomposition device 5 which has a heat decomposition furnace 3 for holding the polymer waste 2 inside and an external heating means 4 for heating externally the heat decomposition furnace 3 to generate a thermal decomposition gas; an oily component recovery device 9 for cooling the thermal decomposition gas generated by the decomposition device 5 to recover the condensed oily component; a circulation route 6 for supplying the heat exchanger 1 with a remaining gas as an oxygen-free gas left after the oily component is recovered in the oily component recovery device 9; a gas generator 7 for generating an inactive gas to introduce it into the heat decomposition furnace 3; and an oxygen concentration detector 8 for detecting the oxygen concentration inside the system of the thermal decomposition apparatus.
