Generally, a motor having improved comprises a first member (30) and a second member assembled to move relative to one another (20) (90). The first member has a plurality of poles that are spaced substantially equidistantly (32). The second member has a plurality of arms (22). Each arm comprises a plurality of fingers (27), a permanent magnet (29), a coil (25). Fingers, their tips are disposed so as to generally face the poles on the first member. Each permanent magnet has a width greater than the separation distance between the poles. Each arm is associated with one of a number of phases. Finger arms in a particular phase, when the first and second members is a relative one position each other and are arranged so as to be arranged simultaneously for each pole.
