PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which secures portability of a supply toner and improves recovery efficiency of a recovery toner in a recovery container.SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises an image holding body, charging means, latent image forming means, developing means, transfer means, cleaning means and toner supply means. As the supply toner, a supply toner is used which contains toner particles whose volume average particle size is 2.0 μm or more and 5.0 μm or less, and silica particles as an external additive. In the supply toner the BET specific surface area is 2.8 m/g or more and 4.2 m/g or less and the isolation rate of the silica particle is 0.64 mass% or more and 2.60 mass% or less. In the recovery toner recovered by cleaning of the cleaning means the BET specific surface area is 1.5 m/g or more and 2.8 m/g or less, the isolation rate of the silica particle is 0.13 mass% or more and 2.00 mass% or less, and the angle of repose is smaller than that of the supply toner.
