PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for regenerating a used carbon-containing refractory into a refractory raw material having a smaller residual carbon amount and for obtaining a refractory raw material in a form to be easily reused in accordance with the purpose of use.SOLUTION: The method for reusing a used carbon-containing refractory comprises pulverizing a used carbon-containing refractory, screening, then burning and removing residual carbon by heating to a temperature of 700°C or higher, and reusing the regenerated material as a refractory raw material. The used refractory is regenerated in such a manner that in accordance with the purpose of use, a carbon content (&bgr;) of the regenerated carbon-containing refractory raw material after heating is within a range in the relationship with a carbon content (α) of the used carbon-containing refractory before heating and a maximum particle diameter (Dmax) of the used carbon-containing refractory before heating and after screening.
