The present invention relates to catalysts for the production of CO gas through electrochemical CO₂ reduction. In particular, the present invention relates to an electrochemical cell comprising an iron porphyrin as the catalyst for the CO₂ reduction into CO, a method of performing electrochemical reduction of CO₂ using said electrochemical cell thereby producing CO gas, and a method of performing electrochemical reduction of CO₂ using said iron porphyrin catalyst thereby producing CO gas.
