Method for determining an electrical output value for a renewable energy converter, method for controlling an electrical output value, electrical power generation system, programmed and operable processing means for executing instructions, inverter, recording medium with stored instructions for execution by means of processing, computer program, system comprising a memory and a processor and a computer-readable medium. A method is provided to determine a value for an electrical output from a renewable energy converter. The method comprises obtaining a signal that represents the electrical output of the converter in which that electrical output has an initial value. The method further comprises applying a pulse signal to the signal representing the electrical output, in which the pulse signal comprises a positive portion and a negative portion. The method also comprises obtaining a measurement of electrical power produced by the converter during the application of the pulse signal, removing the pulse signal and then obtaining a measurement of the electrical power produced by the converter in the absence of the pulse signal. An error value is determined from the electrical power measurements obtained and this error value is applied to the initial value to obtain a target value for the electrical output of the converter.
