The present invention relates to a method of classifying yarn bobbins according to the rigidity of yarn package (41) wound onto a tube (42) for dyeing. The bobbins (4) are classified into groups according to the air-permeability of the yarn package (41). The invention also relates to an apparatus for determining yarn package (41) air-permeability, which yarn package (41) is wound onto a tube (42) provided with a plurality of radial through-holes (421), wherein the tube (42) faces (43, 44) are closed and the interior of the tube (42) is connected with a compressed air source (1), whereby a flow meter (2) is incorporated in the tube (42) interior inlet pipe and a manometer (3) is connected to compressed air source (1) outlet pipe.
