In the present invention, there is disclosed a nozzle for transferring a flow of liquid metal in a flow direction and adapted for use with a regulator that controls the flow of liquid metal, the nozzle (100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900) comprising: (a) an inner surface defining a throughflow bore (115) for transferring the liquid metal; (b) an entry portion (120, 220, 320, 420, 520, 620, 720, 820, 920), adapted to cooperate with the regulator (30) and defining a control zone (55) therebetween; and (c) a pressure modulator (130, 230, 330, 430, 530, 630, 730, 830, 930) downstream of the control zone (55) and adapted to reduce a pressure differential across the control zone (55), the pressure modulator comprising a side aligned with the flow direction and a bottom (135) generally orthogonal to the flow direction, the side and the bottom (135) defining an angle [Phi], wherein the angle [Phi] is less than about 135 degrees. The invention also discloses a method of controlling flow of a fluid.
