pAn apparatus and a method for purifying and sterilizing water using nano catalytic microelectrolysis are provided. The apparatus is comprised of a water pump (1) a nano catalytic microelectrolysis tank (2) a neutralization and sedimentation tank (5) a sand filtration tank (6) a precision filtration tank (7) and a water storage tank (8). 1/20~ 1/5 of raw water obtained from the water pump (1) is introduced into the nano catalytic microelectrolysis tank (2) via a three way pipe and 19/20~4/5 of raw water is directly introduced into the neutralization and sedimentation tank (5) and mixed with water from the nano catalytic microelectrolysis tank. Then the water is settled filtered by the sand filtration tank (6) and introduced into the precision filtration tank (7) by a pump for removing solid impurities plankton colloid and bacteria in the water so as to obtain purified water storied in the water storage tank (8). The apparatus and method can be widely applied to purify potable water brackish water seawater and wastewater./p
