A method for retinal pathology detection comprising the following steps: detecting binary aperture image (UPER) from image of retina taken by a fundus camera (I0RIG) denoising the image (I0RIG) to obtain smoothened image (/SF), estimating background mean (IBG ) and standard deviation (IBG(r), preprocessing the images to obtain contrast enhanced image [IENH) major land mark extraction to obtain a vascular mask image VVASC) and an optic nerve head mask image (/0D) and thereafter detecting and classifying lesion candidates for exudates, haemorrhages and microaneurysms; characterized specifically in the step of denoising by using a non-linear forward-backward complex diffusion shock filter the application of the said approach to colour fundus images being non-obvious.
