The present invention relates to a pH sensitive mucoadhesive microsphere of omeprazole for sustained release of the drug into the gastrointestinal tract for treating gastric acid related disorders in mamnlals and man. The microsphere containing onleprazole is prepared by orifice-ionic geletion method by employing sodiuln alginate in combination with mocoaddhesive polymer carbopol 934-P and coated with enteric coated polymer HPMCP-50 by solvent evaporation method.
