The invention relates to a process for neutralizing potassium thiocyanide deposits in polluted sites. According to the invention, the process consists in dissolving the wastes into a previously prepared diluted alkaline hypochlorite solution while maintaining the reaction mass under vacuum at the boiling temperature, after which the solution containing 5g/l potassium thiosulphate is cooled as to form sulphate, chloride and bicarbonate crystals and is filtered, then the collected clear solution is treated with sodium hypochlorite for advanced destruction of thiocyanates and cyanates.
