the present invention relates to the isolation and characterization of a new strain of streptomyces taxonomy. this strain was isolated from soil sample in the north of tunisia. it has an inhibitory activity against pathogenic bacteria.the study of the phenotypic characteristics of the strain no. 207 provided a classification of the genus streptomyces and to highlight the biochemical and morphological characteristics, chemotaxonomic that distinguish it from other strains belonging to the genus bacterial.the analysis of 16s ribosomal dna fragment and the phylogenetic study showed that strain cn) shows a similarity of 99.50% with four type strains of streptomyces, streptomyces griseoincarnatus dsm40274t, streptomyces labedae dsm41446t, streptomyces erythrogriseus dsm40116t and str dsm40179t eptomyces variabilis.the percentage of similarity obtained from the dna dna hybridization strain cn) with each of the four type strains were lower than 70%. thus, the study is based on the polyphasic molecular and phenotypic traits, we show that the strain cn) is a new type species of the genus streptomyces. according to the tunisiensis (streptomyces sp.nov (dsm42037t = jcm17589t) was proposed.
