The invention relates to analytic chemistry, in particular to surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy, and can be used in the investigation of chemical and biological processes. The subject of the invention is a substrate for surface enhanced Raman scattering studies comprising a semiconductor surface with whiskers, coated with metal selected from the group consisting of silver, gold, platinum, copper and/or alloys thereof, where the semiconductor mentioned is a gallium-containing nitride and essentially each whisker contains a linear defect inside. The substrate is characterized in the enhancement factor is higher than 106. The reproducibility of Raman spectra recorded at different points of the same substrate is not less than 80%, the reproducibility of Raman spectra recorded on different substrates is not less than 75%.
