METHOD FOR PREVENTING POSTPARTUM HYPOCALCEMIA IN THE HIGH-PRODUCING COWS

The method for preventing postpartum hypocalcemia in the high-producing cows comprises parenteral administration of vitamin D in the last days of pregnancy with the assays for total calcium, inorganic phosphorus, magnesium and alkaline phosphatase activity. Vitamin D is administered in a single massive dose only to the cows with previous history of this pathology under control of the content of 25-hydroxyvitamin D, calcium regulating hormones PTH and CT, protein-bound and ultrafiltrated calcium, free fatty acids in blood. In follow-up, the number of animals with postpartum hypocalcemia is defined.
