THE PRESENT INVENTION DESCRIBES A SYSTEM (100) AND METHOD FOR GENERATING AND TUNING MILLIMETERWAVE FREQUENCY BY TUNING THE WAVELENGTH SPACING OF BRILLOUIN-ERBIUM FIBER LASER THROUGH HEAT. THE BRILLOUIN-ERBIUM FIBER LASER INCLUDES A BRILLOUIN GAIN MEDIUM THAT IS DISPOSED IN A TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED OVEN (150) AND THE DESIRED NUMBER OF OUTPUT LIGHT CHANNELS IS CONTROLLED BY POWER OF THE PUMP LASER CONNECTED TO THE EDFA (130). A MILLIMETERWAVE CARRIER IS THEN OBTAINED BY HETERODYNING TWO SELECTED LIGHT CHANNELS FROM THE BRILLOUIN-ERBIUM FIBER LASER. THE TEMPERATURE DEPENDENCE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE BRILLOUIN FREQUENCY SHIFT RESULTS IN THE TUNING OF CHANNEL SPACING WHEN THE FIBER IS HEATED.
