The invention relates to a heterostructured material based on BiVO4 and doped with Er3+, comprising a stabilised majority tetragonal phase, which provides it with excellent characteristics as a photocatalyst under solar irradiation. The invention also relates to the method for producing said material, which uses a microwave-assisted hydrothermal method, and to the use of same for the degradation of organic contaminants in an aqueous or gaseous phase.
