Procedure for the determination of storm surge variables on a vessel, in which the time cycles (x (t0, ..., t1)) of at least two movement variables (x (t)) of the vessel are recorded and in which from at least one pair of time cycles (x (t0, ..., t1)) at least one correlation value (y0) is determined by means of cross correlation and is used for determination (7) of one or more storm surge variables (ΨWL, Tx, Ty), in which a storm surge variable is determined regardless of weather conditions.
