A method of designing and manufacturing a swage type fastener includes thestep offorming a pin member of the fastener with a grooved portion of a plurality ofcircumferentially extending lock grooves and crests of a common geometry intowhicha tubular collar is swaged. The common lock groove geometry is provided withthelongest width required for collars of lower strength for a shear applicationor greaterstrength for a tension application. The common crest geometry is provided withthelongest width required for collars of greater strength for the tensionapplication.
