The present subject matter is directed to a system and method for reducing iceorcondensation that forms on a power component of a wind turbine during a poweroutage.The method includes determining an ambient temperature near the powercomponent;providing one or more parameters of the power component; determining a downtime ofthe power component for the power outage; determining a wait time for thepowercomponent to stay offline as a function of the ambient temperature, the one ormoreparameters, and the down time of the power component; and, heating the powercomponent for the wait time before supplying power to the power component suchthat asurface temperature of the power component is raised above the ambienttemperature. Assuch, the method prevents the power component from being energized whencondensation or ice may be present.
