The invention relates to the chemical and pharmaceutical industry. The invention is based on the use of polyprenols of formula (1), wherein n=8-20, in the form of an active ingredient for producing a medicinal agent for treating the patients suffering from dementia syndrome, including the patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease. A medicinal agent for treating the patients suffering from dementia syndrome, including the patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease is produced in the form of polyprenols of formula (1). A pharmaceutical composition for treating the patients suffering from dementia syndrome, including the patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease, comprises the effective quantity of the polyprenols of formula (1) and pharmaceutically acceptable auxiliary substances, including carriers, and/or solvents, additives and/or lubricants. A method for treating the patients suffering from dementia syndrome, including the patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease, consists in administering to the patients the effective quantity of the polyprenols of formula (1) in the form of an individual preparation or in the form of a pharmaceutical composition additionally containing auxiliary ingredients.
