This musical instrument has the following: an input unit that accepts musical-performance input; a generation unit that generates musical-performance information representing the accepted musical-performance input; a detection unit that detects a handheld terminal; and a control unit that, if said handheld terminal is detected, starts a process that records, in the musical instrument and/or the handheld terminal, the musical-performance information generated by the generation unit and/or a video taken of the musical-performance input being performed.
