Disclosed is a method for activating a function corresponding to an icon in a toolbar, the method comprising: when detecting that the sliding distance of a finger sliding from a toolbar in a preset direction exceeds a preset distance, displaying each icon in the toolbar and a text prompt corresponding to each icon, and displaying the status of a currently pointed icon as a pointed state; when detecting that the sliding distance of the finger sliding from a current position in a preset detected direction exceeds the preset distance, activating a function corresponding to the icon in the pointed state. Also disclosed is a device for activating a function corresponding to an icon in a toolbar. The present invention can conveniently activate a function corresponding to an icon in a toolbar, thus solving the problem of incomplete display of very long text prompts corresponding to icons.
