A method for recycling a rare earth from industrial wastewater in rare earth extraction, which relates to the field of hydrometallurgy of rare earths. The method comprises: recycling a rare earth from industrial wastewater in rare earth extraction, by using a magnesium-based nanomaterial in a form of ion exchange, the recycling process mainly comprising two stages: pretreatment and displacement precipitation. The ratio of recycling the rare earth from wastewater exceeds 98%, and therefore, a trace amount of a low-concentration rare earth in the wastewater can be fully used, thereby reducing waste of resources and recycling precious rare earth resources to a greatest extent.
