The present invention relates to a drying or low-temperature destructive distillation method and apparatus for brown coal or low-deterioration long flame coal. A tunnel type drying chamber of the method and apparatus comprises a preheating segment and a high-temperature segment, multiple exhaust ports are disposed on the top of the high-temperature segment, and multiple hot air or vapor inlets are disposed on the bottom or the side of the high-temperature segment. Multiple excessive tail gas inlets are disposed on the bottom or the side of the preheating segment, the preheating segment is in communication with the multiple exhaust ports of the high-temperature segment through an excessive tail gas exhaust pipeline of the high-temperature segment, and multiple tail gas and condensed water discharge openings are disposed on the bottom of the preheating segment. The tail gas exhausted by the high-temperature segment can be entirely or partially reheated by an external heat source generator or mixed with fresh hot air to form hot air and vapor with a necessary temperature, flow speed and flow rate to be used in drying or destructive distillation of a material, and part of the tail gas can enter the preheating segment to preheat the drying material and is exhausted after an environmental protection treatment. The method and apparatus are environmentally-friendly and easy to control, the heat of vaporization is recycled, the device is simple and the manufacturing cost is low, and mass production is easy to carry out.
