A lignin adhesive-based method for preparing a formaldehyde-free artificial board is a method where lignin adhesive formed by performing acetylization of paper making waste lignin and particles formed d by breaking straw by using an air breaking technology are mixed and thermally pressed to form an artificial board. Particularly, the acetylization of the lignin is performed at a normal temperature by using a mixture of 4-dimethylamino-pyridine and pyridine (1:1-3, V:V) as a catalyst. The acetylization lignin adhesive does not contain formaldehyde, and the acetylization can quickly react at a normal temperature; the produced artificial board has higher physical density, waterproof performance and durability.
