CULICINAE MOSQUITO TRA-2 RNAI, A METHOD TO GENETICALLY PRODUCE MALENESS POPULATIONS

The present invention relates to the field of molecular biology, aiming to develop a novel method for controlling mosquito populations. Culicinae mosquitoes carry one or more loci of transformant Tra-2 RNAi constructs which target the mosquito Transformer-2 locus in respective or non-respective Culicinae mosquitoes. The Tra-2 sequences used to assemble Tra-2 RNAi recombinant constructs are Tra-2 gene sequences of Culicinae mosquitoes and can be derived from endogenous or exogenous sequences. The Tra-2 RNAi expression is conditional, wherein the expression causes a knockdown effect on the endogenous Tra-2 gene resulting in mortality of X (m) chromosome bearing sperm in the spermatogenesis and producing an all-male mosquito population in the natural environment of the species.
