The method involves detecting control valve error state by a control device if blocking of a stepper motor or an actuator i.e. rotor disk, is detected during normal operation. The stepper motor is blocked (S3) with a position-actual value when the stepper motor reaches a reference position, where the position-actual value deviates from a predefined position reference value at a pre-defined tolerance value. The position reference value of the motor is assigned to a reference position of the actuator. A gas supply to a gas burner is locked and/or closed by a blocking valve i.e. magnetic valve. The control valve is a rotor disk valve. An independent claim is also included for an electronically controlled gas cooking appliance.
