The exhaled breath is sampled from a subject who has taken ethanol and then the acetaldehyde concentration and ethanol concentration in the exhaled breath are measured. From the measured values, the ratio of the acetaldehyde concentration to the ethanol concentration is calculated. On the basis of this ratio, the aldehyde-degrading enzyme activity genotype and onset risk of squamous epithelial cancer of the subject are determined.
