The volatile organic compounds (VOCs) contained in the exhaled air of an individual are accumulated in a needle trap device (NTD) and individual VOCs, that are characteristic of a disease, for example an infectious disease or a tumour disease, preferably an infectious lung disease, are detected in the accumulated air.
