Method and system for multi-state attendance which can indicate staff whereabouts, which extends the attendance states to multiple states. Except "ON duty" state and "Off duty" state, it also includes other states that commonly used, and it also allows manually input non-commonly used states or special states. All these states are sent to the server to record. Server can provide the records of states to the manager to analyze or monitor, at the same time, server can send out warning messages according to these states records. Quick "signing input" one's attendance can be used to provide a convenient states updating. The attendance terminals include computers and "attendance machines", when computers are used as attendance terminals, screen saver can be used to indicate the staff whereabouts, which saves a lot of equipment investment； because the content of the screen saver is always displayed, which will not be switched to other window, or be covered by other content, so the screen saver also can be used to display the basic information of the staff, as well as to save the screen, to save energy, and to ensure the information security, therefore the multi-state attendance system having many remarkable benefits.
