A process for carbon nanotube array production in which an array of carbon nanotubes including no m-carbon nanotubes (m-CNT) is obtained through simple steps using a mechanism that is different from the thermocapillary flow, the process comprising: A) a step in which a carbon nanotube array is prepared in which m- and s-CNTs have been horizontally aligned; B) a step in which a layer comprising an organic substance is formed on the carbon nanotube array; C) a step in which a voltage is applied in air to the carbon nanotube array along the major-axis direction of the carbon nanotubes constituting the carbon nanotube array; and D) a step in which the layer comprising an organic substance is removed. The carbon nanotube array of the invention is obtained by this process.
