The present invention relates to a food composition and a pharmaceutical composition to prevent or improve cancer comprising a Torilis japonica extract as an active ingredient. The Torilis japonica extract in the present invention enables the prevention of proliferating cancer cells; enables cancer cells to self-destruct; and has the effects of preventing cancer cells from spreading, such that the Torilis japonica extract can be used as the food composition or the pharmaceutical composition to prevent, improve or cure cancer cells.
