The present invention relates to an indoor positioning system using an inertial sensor which comprises: a reference coordinate generating GPS device which is installed outdoors and generates a reference coordinate from a GPS satellite signal; an inertial sensor installed in a portable terminal located indoors; a distance measuring module which is installed in the portable terminal, and measures a relative distance by communicating with the reference coordinate generating GPS device and between portable terminals with a beacon method; a first position estimating unit which estimates a position of the portable terminal by using data detected in the inertial sensor; a second position estimating unit which estimates a position of the portable terminal corresponding to the reference coordinate by using the relative distance with the reference coordinate generating GPS device and the relative distance between the portable terminals measured from the distance measuring module; and a position calculating unit which calculates a position of the portable terminal from output of the first position estimating unit and the second position estimating unit. According to the present invention, provided is an effect of increasing a degree of precision and greatly decreasing errors in comparison with an indoor positioning system using the existing inertial sensor by calculating an indoor position using the position estimated using the inertial sensor of the portable terminal, and the position estimated using the reference coordinate generated in the reference coordinate generating GPS device and the relative distance measured from the distance measuring module installed in the portable terminal.
