Provided is an apparatus for detecting a leakage of a coolant from a reactor vessel head, which comprises: a pipe part installed at the reactor pressure head; a venturi tube connected to the pipe part and installed at a region, where a leakage is likely to happen, to suck the coolant if the coolant leaks; an air supply unit configured to supply compressed air to the pipe part in order for the coolant to be sucked by the venture tube and moved through the pipe part; a leakage detecting sensor configured to detect whether the coolant leaks around the venture tube by detecting the coolant moved through the pipe part; an optical fiber installed inside the pipe part; a light source configured to generate a pulsed laser to come into the optical fiber; a signal separator installed on a path between the light source and the optical fiber and configured to separate incident light coming into the optical fiber and reflected light reflected from the optical fiber; and a signal processor configured to measure a temperature distribution on the pipe part, using the reflected light. Also, provided is a method for detecting the leakage of the coolant using the apparatus.
