The present invention relates to a selective medium composition for detecting lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria from food and agricultural products, and a method for detecting lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria in food by using the selective medium composition, and more specifically, to a selective medium composition which adds propionic acid to a blood-free medium and controls PH regularly. According to the present invention, the selective medium has excellent selectivity about lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria in food compared to an existing selective medium, thereby being used as a selective medium for detecting lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria in food.
