The present invention relates to an effect of a Rumex crispus L. root extract to facilitate osteoblast differentiation. More particularly, the present invention provides a pharmaceutical composition and a food composition comprising the Rumex crispus L. root extract, as an active ingredient, for preventing or treating osteoporosis. The present invention uses an effect of the Rumex crispus L. extract to facilitate proliferation and differentiation of osteoblast and to increase tubercle formation and calcification of bones, thereby having excellent effects on prevention, alleviation, or treatment of osteoporosis.
