Provided in the present invention are novel Escherichia coli GRTOP with high galactose metabolizing ability (Accession No. KCTC12454BP), microorganism preparation containing the same as an effective component, and a red algae-based method for metabolizing biomass using the same. According to the present invention, the novel Escherichia coli with excellent galactose metabolizing ability is used to efficiently metabolize biomass like red algae to convert galactose into a specific compound or fuel in high yield and high productivity. In addition, new regeneration energy can be obtained to resolve energy crisis and problems of both environment and energy.
