A method and a system for counting the number of individual elements of a multiset are disclosed. The counting method is performed by a computer to count the number of individual elements of a multiset. The counting method comprises the steps of: maintaining a counting memory including a plurality of variables having a first bit size, respectively; and counting the number of inputs including the duplication of inputted elements using corresponding variables included in the counting memory, wherein the number of inputs are counted using an additional memory dynamically allocated with respect to elements in which the number of inputs exceeds a maximum value which may be counted according to the first bit size.
