The present invention relates to a method of detecting a cellular phone in a washing machine, and a washing machine using the same. The washing machine comprises: a key input unit having a plurality of buttons including an operation/pause button and a selection button; a plurality of antennae for detecting a local wireless signal; a display unit for displaying an operation mode of the washing machine; a control unit for controlling the antennae to detect a local wireless signal, and, determining, if a local wireless signal is detected, that a cellular phone is in the washing machine so as to stop the operation of the washing machine; and a load driving unit for controlling an operation of a motor according to a control signal of the control unit.
