Disclosed are a method and apparatus for selecting a protection path in an ODU SMP network. The method for selecting the protection path in the optical channel data unit shared mesh protection (ODU SMP) network includes the steps of: enabling an intermediate node to search an identifier related to a shared resource if the shared resource managed in the intermediate node is occupied in a specific protection path; enabling the intermediate node to determine whether the searched identifier is registered; enabling the intermediate node to search a port corresponding to the identifier if the identifier is registered; and transmitting a shared resource availability message to a node corresponding to the port if the port is registered.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2015
