The present invention relates to a power management apparatus for a battery energy storage system and a controlling method of a power management apparatus, comprising: a first power conversion unit for managing a power of batteries; a second power conversion unit installed spacing apart from the first power conversion unit; a control unit for supplying cold air for cooling an interior of the first power conversion unit and an interior of the second power conversion unit and for recovering a heat generated by the first power conversion unit and the second power conversion unit; a first supply fan for moving cold air supplied from the control unit into an interior of the first power conversion unit; a second supply fan for moving cold air supplied from the control unit into an interior of the second power conversion unit; and a separation unit installed between the first power conversion unit and the second power conversion unit to separate a movement path of the cold air supplied from the first supply fan, a movement path of the heat generated from the first power conversion unit, a movement path of the cold air supplied by the second supply fan and a movement path of the heat generated from the second power conversion unit. According to the present invention, it is possible to increase use hours of batteries installed in the management apparatus by reducing a power consumption and possible to contribute to reducing material costs and operation costs by reducing an installed capacity of installed batteries.
