The present invention relates to an apparatus for analyzing an oil type using thin-layer chromatography and a method for analyzing an oil type using the same apparatus whereby an oil type of a material contaminated by oil included in contaminated soil can be analyzed in an easy manner by applying thin-layer chromatography and UV ray reaction of oil. The method includes the steps of: preparing a sample solution obtained by making an oil-contaminated material react with an organic compound extraction solvent; dripping the sample solution at a starting point on a detection plate of the apparatus for analyzing an oil type; and allowing the sample solution, dripped on the starting point of the detection plate, to be vertically dispersed with a casting solution on the detection plate. The oil-contaminated material includes one or more petroleum-based organic compounds. The diffusion distance on the detection plate varies depending on a type of oil. In the step of allowing the sample solution to be dispersed, a type of oil is identified by irradiating the detection plate with UV rays and checking the final diffusion distance of the oil-contaminated material.
