A method for realizing an infrared marine target detection apparatus by applying a distance adaptive detection threshold performs distance estimation from an infrared sensor to sea level for horizontal lines of a sea region with a sea level reference installation height of the infrared sensor and a vertical clock and altitude information of the infrared sensor; and removes a sea level reflection clutter with a first threshold inversely proportional to the square of a distance for an output value of a space filter and a second threshold inversely proportional to the square of a distance for a signal-to-noise ratio, thereby enabling reduction in a false alarm and a signal process time and increase in a detection distance of a long distance small target, and very effectively reducing signal process computation in a system performing real-time detection for a high-capacity image, especially such as an infrared search and track (IRST).
