The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, having homoegonol as an active ingredient, and more specifically, to a homoegonol exhibited a reduction effect of neutrophils serving as a mediation factor in the progression of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease animal model induced with a tobacco extract. Furthermore in the present invention, the number of inflammatory cells in the lung tissue is remarkably reduced by inhibiting the generation of MCP-2 which promotes the migration of inflammatory cells, and TNF- which is the inflammatory cytokine. Accordingly, the homoegonol can be usefully used as an active ingredient of the pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by significantly inhibiting the inflammatory response in the lung tissue through the inhibition of an inflammatory mediator.
